CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - After serving two seasons as a coach with national powerhouse California University, Andy Hilton has recently been tabbed to serve as the head coach of the MIT lightweight freshman crew.
Hilton served as an assistant coach with the Bears' varsity program in 2006-07, leading the varsity 4+ to Gold at the Pac-10 and IRA Championships. Hilton also served as a volunteer coach as Cal captured the National Championship in the spring of 2006.
Hilton attended Dartmouth College, receiving his B.A. in economics in 1999. He rowed for the Dartmouth lightweights and co-captained the 1998-1999 squad, sitting in the No. 3 seat in the varsity 8+ that won bronze at the 1999 IRA National Championship. Hilton also served as the lightweight intern at Harvard College from 1999-2001 before returning to the water the following season at the US Rowing training center in Princeton.
After hanging up his oar, Hilton returned to coaching part-time at Deerfield Academy where he also worked in the alumni office from 2002-2005. Andy has also spent summers coaching at Craftsbury Sculling Center in Vermont.
