CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Following a four-year hiatus from competition, former captain and current MIT fencing assistant coach, Evangelos Efstathiou '00, will participate in the International Fencing Federation (FIE) World Cup to be held this weekend in Padova, Italy. His qualification to the event came after a 24th place finish at the North American Cup which occurred this past December.

A two-time third-place finisher at the New England Championship, Efstathiou collected sabre second-team all-star accolades from the Northeast Fencing Conference. After graduation, he continued to train with MIT head coach Jarek Koniusz as he began competing at the international level. During Efstathiou's career which lasted through the 2008 Olympic cycle, he reached 83rd in the 2004 World Rankings.
