Men's Fencing Goes 1-2 at MIT/Brandeis Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Facing a very competitive field at the MIT/Brandeis University Invitational, MIT posted a 1-2 record this past weekend. The Engineers, whose record moved to 7-11 on the year, defeated Haverford College (16-11), but fell to the U.S. Air Force Academy (14-13) and NYU (18-9).

A 7-2 performance against Haverford helped power the epee team to a 14-13 ledger. Matt Gethers led the way with a 5-3 record as Gabriel Chan and Jeremy Hurwitz both posted totals of 4-5. Javier Ordonez rounded out the contingent by winning the only bout he competed in.

The foil team went 13-14 during the day, as its lone win was a 5-4 decision versus NYU. Spencer Sugimoto anchored the squad with a 6-3 total as Benjamin Switala registered a mark of 4-5. Sebastian Castro went 1-2 while Richard LaGrandier notched a 2-4 performance.

The sabre team's best showing was a 6-3 victory over Air Force as it went on to record a total of 11-16. Maximilian Brand paced MIT with a mark of 4-4, followed by Igor Kopylov (4-5), Rangarajan Nadadur (3-6), and Matthew Farrell (0-1).
