Engineers Earn Two Wins at MIT-Brandeis Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT men's fencing team wrapped up regular season competition on Sunday, Feb. 4 by hosting the MIT-Brandeis Invitational. The Engineers (10-10) opened the day with wins over New York University (14-13) and Yeshiva University (23-4), but fell to Duke University (18-9), Penn State University (22-5), University of Pennsylvania (18-9), and Princeton University (24-3).

Trevor Chang recorded the best outing for MIT as he went 11-7 to lead the epee team to a 26-28 record. Matt Gethers finished with a total of 8-10 while Gabriel Chan posted a mark of 7-11.

Igor Kopylov paced the sabre squad with a ledger of 9-9 en route to a 21-33 team total. Raymond Wu notched a mark of 6-11 as Namit Setia finished the day at 5-12. Nurzhas Makishev bolstered the team's performance by winning one of his two bouts.

The epee team turned in a 16-38 record, led by Spencer Sugimoto's tally of 7-11. Sebastian Castro (4-5), Jason Chen (2-10), and Benjamin Switala (3-12) rounded out Tech's contingent.
