Engineers Close Regular Season at Duke Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - In its final tune-up before the postseason, MIT fell to Brandeis University (20-7), U.S. Air Force Academy (15-12), Johns Hopkins University (17-10), Duke University (15-12), and University of North Carolina (18-9) at the Duke Invitational. The Engineers concluded their dual competition slate with a 7-16 record.

The sabre team registered 5-4 decisions over Brandeis, Air Force, and Johns Hopkins en route to a 20-25 team total. Igor Kopylov led the way with a ledger of 10-5, followed by Maximilian Brand (6-9) and Rangarajan Nadadur (4-11).

A 6-3 performance against Air Force helped lift the foil team's final mark to 16-29. Benjamin Switala compiled a total of 6-9 while Spencer Sugimoto went 4-6. Richard LaGrandier and Sebastian Castro rounded out the contingent with scores of 4-11 and 2-4, respectively.

The epee team recorded a 6-3 outing versus the host Blue Devils as it finished the day with a total of 14-31. Gabriel Chan and Jeremy Hurwitz posted identical marks of 5-10 while Matt Gethers notched a ledger of 4-11.
