Men's Fencing Secures Second Place at New England Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Boston College edged out the MIT men's fencing team by three victories, denying it a chance of earning back-to-back New England Championship crowns last weekend. Benjamin Nield (foil) and Matt Gethers (epee) represented the Engineers on the medal stand, earning Silver and Bronze honors.
The foil team captured first place as Nield led the way with a total of 11-1. Daniel Levine finished fifth overall with a mark of 10-2 as Richard LaGrandier (9-3) ranked fourth in the "C" qualifying pool.
The epee race was tightly contested as MIT finished in a three-way tie for the top spot with Sacred Heart University and Vassar College. Gabriel Chan claimed sixth place, replicating Gether's record of 8-4. Carter Chang was the top performer in the "C" pool, compiling a mark of 10-2 and ranking 10th among all competitors.
Igor Kopylov (9-3) and Rangarajan Nadadur (7-5) placed seventh and eighth in the final standings en route to a fourth-place finish for the sabre squad. Maximilian Brand rounded out the contingent with a total of 10-2, good for 12th place.
