CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT men's fencing team fell to three Division I foes en route to a 1-3 outing at the Brandeis University Invitational on Sunday. The Engineers (5-3) defeated Vassar College (14-13), but lost to Boston College (14-13), St. John's University (21-6), and Yale University (15-12).
The foil team put together the best record of the day as it finished at 17-19. Its best outing was a 6-3 decision against Vassar which helped lead MIT to its lone victory. Spencer Sugimoto paced the Engineers with an 8-4 record while Jason Chen and Benjamin Switala finished at 5-7 and 4-8, respectively.
In its match with Yale, the epee team picked up Tech's only victory with a 5-4 decision. The corps posted a 15-21 record behind Trevor Chang's team-best mark of 7-5. Gabriel Chan went 5-7 as Matt Gethers notched a 2-8 ledger. Jeremy Hurwitz won one of his two bouts.
