Feb. 16, 2005

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Northeast Fencing Conference announced that MIT's women's and men's fencing teams each finished the season in first place in the conference standings. In addition, Trevor Chang was tabbed the Male Fencer of the Year, becoming the first recipient of this honor in the program's history. He posted a 31-7 mark, putting him in good standing to qualify for the NCAA National Championships.

The women's squad recorded its fifth consecutive 10-0 season while the men finished atop the conference standings for the second year in row, totaling an 8-1 ledger. Members of the NFC include Boston College, Boston University, Brandeis University, Brown University, Dartmouth College, Smith College, Tufts University, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, University of New Hampshire, and Wellesley College.

This Saturday, MIT will be hosting the New England Fencing Championships where the women's team will be defending its title. Individually, Susannah Dorfman looks to hold on to the foil championship crown.
