CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT junior linebacker Jake Laux (Dousman, Wis.) has earned the New England Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week award for his play in MIT's upset win over No. 24 Salve Regina on Friday night the league has announced. It is the first player of the week award won by an Engineer this season.
Laux, who leads the NEFC in tackles, led the Engineers with 12 stops against previously undefeated Salve Regina. Six of his stops were solo tackles and it marked the sixth time in seven games this season that he has recorded 10 or more tackles in a game. He also picked up his first interception of the season, picking off a Seahawks pass with less than 30 seconds left in the game to clinch the upset win for MIT.
MIT, which has now won three of its last four games, will play next Saturday at Nichols College, taking on the Bison in a NEFC game at 2:30 p.m.
