CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After scoring a 34-0 win at Becker College in week two of the 2013 football season, two MIT student-athletes have been honored by the New England Football Conference for their play against the Hawks. Senior linebacker Jake Laux (Dousman, Wis.) was named the NEFC Defensive Player of the Week and junior quarterback Peter Williams (Portland, Ore.) earned Offensive Player of the Week honors from the league.
For Laux it is his second career Defensive Player of the Week award. He reached double figures in tackles for the first time this season with 12 stops in the Engineers' victory at Becker to lead all players in the game. His first stop of the contest was the 300th of his career, making him the third MIT player to reach that career total.
Williams accounted for 323 yards of total offense and three touchdowns to lead the MIT offense against the Hawks. The three touchdowns he accounted for came in the first four drives of the game as he led the Engineers to scores on all four of those drives. His 261 passing yards pushed his career passing yardage over the 2,000-yard mark.
