CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Rising seniors Alex Warner (Rockaway, N.J.) and Cameron Wagar (West Richland, Wash.) of the MIT football team picked up early honors for the 2014 season when they were named to the preseason All-America team selected by USA College Football. Warner, an offensive lineman, was a second team selection, while Wagar, a defensive back, was picked to the third team.
A first team All-Northeast Football Conference (NEFC) and Academic All-NEFC performer in 2013, Warner started all nine games for the Engineers along the offensive front last season. He helped anchor a line that blocked for an offense that finished second in the NEFC in total offense, opened holes for a 1,000-yard back and provided protection for a quarterback that set a school record for total offense in a season.
A starter for the past two and a half seasons in the MIT secondary, Wagar finished second on the team last season with 61 tackles, recording double figures in stops in four games. An Academic All-NEFC pick, he broke up a pair of passes over the course of the season, recovered a pair of fumbles and recorded a quarterback sack.
