CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In the first meeting between both programs, the MIT men's lacrosse team registered a 14-5 victory over visiting Salem State College on Tuesday afternoon. Corey Garvey posted a game-high five points on one goal and four assists for the Engineers (4-5). The Vikings saw eight different players earn a point as their ledger lowered to 6-4 on the year.

Dan Piemont notched four goals and three groundballs for the Cardinal and Gray as Carl Tilbury provided three goals and an assist. Gabe Blanchet posted two goals and two assists while Justin Myers won 10-of-18 face-offs to go along with eight groundballs and a goal. Eric Zuk recorded three groundballs and a goal as Tomas Vianna scooped up four groundballs. John Kucharczyk and Nick Sisler both added a goal while Bryan Beller earned a pair of caused turnovers. In net, Christopher Rullan compiled nine saves and five groundballs.

Justin Jones, Kyle Dolan, Ryan Gendreau, Michael Parisella, and Brandon Cali each scored a goal for Salem State as Jonathan Falls, Robert Mulroy, and Ryan Savini earned one assist apiece. Falls led the way with five groundballs, followed by four from Dolan, and three by Dan Cox and Jones. Jesse Fentross bolstered the defense with two caused turnovers. Brendan Gill made seven saves in 53 minutes of action in the net while John Sullivan closed out the game with one stop.

MIT scored three goals in a five-minute span in the first quarter and then tacked on two more 40 seconds apart in the second stanza to establish a 5-0 advantage. The Vikings ended the shutout when Dolan converted a feed from Mulroy for an extra-man goal with 4:28 left in the second quarter. Tilbury completed the hat-trick on pass by Blanchet to give the Engineers a 6-1 lead at the intermission.

Piemont upped the hosts' margin with an unassisted extra-man goal early in the third quarter, but Salem State countered with Cali redirecting a feed from Falls. Garvey went on to earn back-to-back assists on goals by Blanchet and Piemont, extending the Engineers' lead to 9-2 with 4:31 left in the frame. An unassisted strike by Jones was answered with a man-up marker by Piemont.

The Vikings narrowed the gap to six (10-4) just 46 seconds into the fourth quarter courtesy of a solo effort by Parisella. MIT replied with four consecutive goals that put the game out of reach. Alex Andrzejewski found Piemont to start the run as Garvey and Zuk provided the next two goals. Garvey then set up Myers for the Engineers' final goal at the 4:41 mark. Exactly three minutes later, Gendreau converted a feed from Savini for a man-up tally.

Both squads return to action on Saturday, April 17. MIT will travel to Pilgrim Lacrosse League foe Lasell College while Salem State will host Plymouth State University.
