CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In the first meeting between both programs since 2000, host Whittier College recorded a 17-1 win over the MIT men's lacrosse team on Tuesday. With the loss, the Engineers' ledger dipped to 2-2 on the year.
The Poets opened the scoring four minutes into the contest. The Cardinal and Gray tallied the equalizer at the 8:58 mark when Dan Piemont connected on a feed from Carl Tilbury. Whittier tacked on four straight goals to secure a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Poets went on to amass seven unanswered goals in the second stanza to put the game out of reach. Whittier found the back of the net twice in the third quarter before adding three goals in the final frame.
Alex Andrzejewski and Christopher Rullan both scooped up seven groundballs while Rullan collected 15 saves. Tom Hay bolstered the defense with a pair of caused turnovers.
