CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Pilgrim Lacrosse League foe Springfield College defeated MIT, 12-2, in men's lacrosse action on Saturday. With the loss, the Engineers' lowered their ledger to 2-4 on the year and 0-2 in conference play.
The Pride opened the scoring almost 10 minutes into the contest. The slim advantage held until MIT posted the equalizer early in the second quarter. Ryan Ballentine set up Jonathan Stolmeier for Tech's sixth extra-man goal of the season. Springfield closed the frame with three consecutive goals which resulted in a 4-1 lead at the break.
The Pride carried the momentum into the third quarter as it extended its advantage after 36 seconds had elapsed. MIT narrowed the gap to three (5-2) almost two minutes later on Tyler Sorba's unassisted goal. This was as close as it would get for the visitors as Springfield rattled off four unanswered goals, including two during the final 23 seconds of the period.
