CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Behind a game-high five goals, Dylan Roden helped propel MIT to an 11-5 win over Pilgrim Lacrosse League foe Norwich University on Wednesday. Neil Zimmerman notched one goal and three assists while Ernie Park tallied two goals, an assist, and eight groundballs for the Engineers (6-5, 3-1 Pilgrim). Ryan Ballentine and Corey Garvey each posted five groundballs as Ballentine added two assists. Patrick Shannon registered four groundballs while Garth Grove collected seven saves.
Roden put MIT on the board early in the contest with Norwich recording the equalizer midway through the period. Roden then connected on a pass from Ballentine to give the Engineers the lead for good with 5:36 on the clock. Zimmerman found Park just over a minute later and Roden completed the hat-trick courtesy of a feed from Garvey.
The Roden-Ballentine connection returned in the second quarter, resulting in a man-up goal and a 5-1 advantage. Zimmerman set up Tom Hay at the 4:41 mark while Norwich found the back of the net late in frame, making the score, 6-2, in favor of the visitors at the break.
The Cardinal and Gray extended their margin with a 4-1 spurt during the last seven minutes of the third quarter. A solo effort by Park was followed by an unassisted extra-man goal from Roden. Zimmerman scored on a feed from Park before the Cadets ended their scoring drought with 2:42 remaining. Shannon found the back of the net 38 seconds later to establish a 10-3 lead heading into the final stanza.
Norwich narrowed the gap with back-to-back goals early in the fourth quarter, but it would get no closer. John Kucharczyk capped the scoring with an extra-man goal that was set up by Zimmerman with 3:33 left to play.
