Lasell Defeats MIT, 17-9

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - Lasell College's eight goals in the third period sealed its 17-9 win over the MIT men's lacrosse team in Pilgrim League action on Wednesday. Isaac Taylor tallied three goals for the Engineers (4-5, 3-3 Pilgrim) while Dan Winter paced the Lasers (9-2, 4-1) with two goals and three assists.

Taylor opened the scoring with an extra-man goal after connecting on a feed from Devin Dersh at 10:35. A minute later, Jonathan Stolmeier gave Tech its largest lead of the game with an unassisted goal. Lasell's Louis Lucchetti and Dan Winter notched back-to-back goals to tie the game with less than six minutes remaining in the period. MIT regained the lead when Patrick Bossi found Tyler Sorba with 2:41 left.

The Lasers' posted the equalizer 1:08 into the second stanza when Lucchetti set up Kyle Minaker. Dersh gave the Engineers their last lead of the game nearly 40 seconds later. Lasell responded with four unanswered goals in a span of five minutes, resulting in a 7-4 advantage with 4:19 left in the half. Dan Russo sparked the run by connecting on a pass from Winter. Minaker earned his second point of the period after he set up Jeremy Davis for the go-ahead goal. A goal by Lucchetti was followed by Winter scoring on a feed from Al Zayac. After being held scoreless for almost 11 minutes, Carter Powers found the back of the net on a pass from Young. Lasell entered the intermission with a slim 7-5 lead.

Lasell's offense exploded in the third frame, as it outscored MIT, 8-1. David Bulhoes scored the first goal of the run and then set up Lucchetti for an extra-man score. Zayac registered what proved to be the game-winning goal when he swatted at an attempted clearing pass from MIT's goalie which sent the ball bouncing to the open net. Bulhoes earned his second assist of the period on a goal by Minaker. Zayac then notched back-to-back goals on assists from Winter and Bulhoes. Chris Labreche recorded his first point of the game by scoring on a pass from Minaker. Davis capped the scoring spree with an unassisted goal. The Engineers avoided being shutout in the period when Sorba set up Taylor at the 1:10 mark.

Russo posted the first goal of the final frame after being set up by Labreche. With four minutes left to play, Stolmeier scored on a pass from Sorba. Lasell's Winter found Kevin Lang for its final goal 1:08 later. Taylor and Sorba tallied the Engineers' last two goals of the game.

In the net, MIT's Zach Brewer made 14 stops in 45 minutes as Christopher Ng finished the game, collecting six saves. Mark DeMieri totaled 10 saves for the Lasers.

The next game for MIT will be on Saturday, April 23 at 11:00 a.m. when it hosts Pilgrim Lacrosse League foe Springfield College.
