MIT Cruises To Victory Over UMass-Dartmouth

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - Isaac Taylor tallied a game-high four goals and added an assist in leading MIT to a 10-4 victory over UMass-Dartmouth in men's lacrosse action on Tuesday. With the win, the Engineers snap a two-game losing skid and bring their record to 5-6. Ryan Leary paced the Corsairs (4-8) with two goals and an assist.
Taylor lit the lamp 4:40 into the game with an unassisted goal. Nearly five minutes later, Stefano Young extended the Engineers' lead. Carter Powers set up Taylor for the final goal of the period at 2:17.
MIT continued to roll in the second stanza with Taylor earning a hat-trick with 10:33 left in the half. An unassisted goal by Scott Purchase was followed by Tyler Sorba scoring on a pass from Powers. The Engineers recorded their final goal of the period when Young set up Powers at the 5:51 mark. Within 22 seconds, UMass-Dartmouth's Leary ended the shutout by connecting on a feed from Kyle Griffin. MIT entered the halftime break with a 7-1 advantage.
In the third period, Sorba scored an unassisted goal at 11:57. The Corsairs' responded with Leary finding Patrick Roach for a quick goal. During the next 10 minutes, MIT faced relentless offensive pressure from UMass-Dartmouth. The Engineers eventually got the ball out of its defensive zone as Taylor notched an unassisted goal with 1:52 remaining.
Leary led off the scoring in the final frame by connecting on a pass from Griffin. Powers scored MIT's last goal after receiving a feed from Taylor. The Corsairs continued to fight as they posted the final goal of the game. Nick McEvoy set up Ryan Grant for an extra-man goal with 1:13 left on the clock.
In the net, Zach Brewer collected 21 saves for MIT. Steve Chase made 14 stops for UMass-Dartmouth.
The next game for MIT will be on Thursday, April 28 at 4:00 p.m. when it hosts UMass-Boston.
