CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Western New England College was too much to handle as MIT fell to the host Golden Bears, 14-2, in its final game of the year on Saturday. Jonathan Stolmeier recorded both goals for the Engineers, who finished with an overall mark of 5-7 and a 3-5 ledger in Pilgrim League play.
WNEC (13-2, 8-0 Pilgrim) opened the scoring with four goals in the first quarter. Stolmeier put Tech on the scoreboard at the 8:43 mark of the second frame with an unassisted tally. The Golden Bears tacked on five more goals for a 9-1 advantage at the intermission.
The scoring spree continued for WNEC in the second stanza as it added another five unanswered goals. Stolmeier notched the final goal of the day with 28 seconds left to play. In net, Zach Brewer collected a season-high 23 saves.
