SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The MIT men’s soccer held off Springfield College for a 1-0 victory in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest on Saturday. With the win, the Engineers improved to 7-5 on the year and 2-1 in conference play while the Pride’s ledger lowered to 4-7-1 overall and 1-3 in NEWMAC play.

After a strong throw-in, MIT sophomore Zachary Kabelac made a perfect pass to the center of the box. Freshman Ben Lewis made no mistake as he tapped home the goal to give the visitors a 1-0 lead it would not relinquish.
Springfield ended the game with an 8-7 advantage in shots, while the Engineers owned an 8-5 edge in corner kicks. Dylan Rankin needed to make just one save en route to the shutout win for MIT, while Chris Walton returned to the net for Springfield and made a pair of saves in the loss.
