BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Sean Bingham (Garden City, N.Y.) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in two weeks on Monday afternoon. He was also named the ECAC Offensive Player of the Week the following day. He scored four goals in two games to help lead the MIT men's soccer team to another undefeated week. Tech is currently on a seven-game winning streak.
In the Engineers' 7-0 win over Framingham State University on Wednesday, Bingham scored Tech's third goal of the game just two minutes after returning to the field for the second half. In an exciting conference matchup against Springfield College on Saturday, his three goals, all of which were scored in less than a 13 minute span in the first half, helped lead MIT to a close 4-3 win over the Pride in overtime.
With his 18 goals on the season, Bingham is currently tied for first with Nick Nestle '03 for most goals in Institute history. Combined with his 17 goals from last season, he is slowly making his way up the career goal lists, sitting in fourth with 35 goals after just two seasons on the team. Nestle also holds that record with 50.
Tech will play its final non-conference game of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 30, facing Emmanuel College at 7:00 p.m. The Engineers will then host WPI on Saturday, Nov. 2 for its final home game of the regular season and senior day at 1:00 p.m. The first round of the NEWMAC Tournament will begin a few short days later on Wednesday, Nov. 6, while the semifinals and finals will be on Nov. 9 and 10.
