Aidan Byrne begins his first season as the head men's soccer coach at MIT after being named to his position in the summer of 2014.

Byrne comes to the Engineers’ soccer program after spending the last four seasons as an assistant coach at Northeastern University. While there he helped guide the Huskies to their first Colonia Athletic Association title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament in 2012, with the team gaining its first-ever national ranking. Prior to his stint at Northeastern, Byrne spent two years as an assistant at Siena College and eight years on the staff at Mount Ida College. At Siena his time with the program was the best two-season stretch in program history, while Mount Ida won a pair of conference championships and was selected for its first NCAA Tournament appearance during his tenure there. This will be Byrne’s second stint at MIT, spending one year with the Engineers in 1999 at the start of his coaching career.

Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Byrne came to the United States to play collegiate soccer at Mount Ida for two seasons from 1995-97 before transferring to the University of Rhode Island for his junior and senior years. As a member of the Mustangs, he was named to the All-New England first team in 1996 and was named first-team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association and second-team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in 1996. For his efforts, Byrne was inducted into the Mount Ida Hall of Fame.
