NEWPORT, R.I. - Sophomore forward Christian Therkelsen corralled a loose ball in the box and tallied what proved to be the game-winning goal after seven minutes expired as MIT went on to record a 2-0 victory over Salve Regina University in a non-league men’s soccer game on Saturday. The Engineers (1-0) won by an identical score last year and now own a 4-0 all-time mark against the Seahawks (0-1).
Sophomore midfielder Peter Bojo completed the scoring 10 minutes later when he converted a pass from freshman midfielder Max Stein-Golenbock. In net, Tom Caldwell collected five saves en route to his 11th career shutout.
“I’m very pleased with the team effort,” said head coach Milton Gooding. “This was an excellent way to start the season, especially getting a win on the road.”
