COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Zachary Kabelac scored his first goal of the season and Tom Caldwell made eight saves as the MIT men’s soccer team spoiled nationally-ranked No. 20 Colorado College’s home opener with a 2-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Kabelac got just enough of a crossing pass from Christian Therkelsen to guide the ball past the Tigers’ Andy McGhie and just inside the far post in the 23rd minute. The Engineers (3-0) added an insurance goal 2:20 into the second half when David Nole found a loose ball during a scramble in front of the Tigers’ net.

Playing its second game in 17 hours, Colorado College (3-1) dominated the game statistically, posting a 19-7 advantage in shots and a 9-2 difference in corner kicks. But it was MIT which converted on its rare opportunities.

“This was a wonderful win for the team, playing one of the top teams in the nation and getting this result,” said head coach Milton Gooding. “I’m very proud of their performance.”
