CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Chase Lochmiller headed in a cross from Christopher Desrochers in the 85th minute to lift visiting MIT to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Tufts University on Wednesday. The neighboring rivals have played to 1-1 draws in each of the previous two years, with Engineers (2-1) last pulling out a win in 1991.
The first half held to the pattern of the last two outings, ending in a scoreless tie. The Jumbos (1-1) struck in the 53rd minute when Mike Guigli bounced a shot off the post and it went in. MIT answered quickly, with Desrochers feeding Andrew Bishara for the first goal of his career one minute later. Greg O'Connell regained a one-goal lead for the hosts with a tally off a corner kick from Andrew Drucker.
With nine minutes left in regulation, James Zorich and Dominic Powell found Walter Song who drove a shot from outside the box into the goal to tie the match at 2-2. Four minutes later, Lochmiller's header eluded the leap of Tufts keeper Brian Dulmovits for the winner.
Tufts had the statistical advantage with a 14-9 edge in shots and seven corner kicks to zero for the Engineers. In the net, Thomas Caldwell collected 10 saves, while Dulmovits finished with two.
