Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Engineers knew coming into Saturday afternoon's match with Clark that the Cougars would have revenge on their minds following last year's defeat at the hands of Tech in the NEWMAC semifinal. Clark (4-0-1; 1-0 NEWMAC) ultimately got its revenge, using two first half goals to defeat MIT (3-2-0; 0-1 NEWMAC), 2-0. It was the first NEWMAC game of the season for each side.

The winning goal came less than one minute into the game when Stillman Shaw's cross found the head of Mike Trobagis, who finished for his team-leading third goal of the season. Trobagis has the unique distinction of having all three of his goals this year ultimately be game-winners.

Clark padded its lead in the 40th minute when Lino Goncalves fed Nicholas Voyiatzis to make it 2-0.

The Engineers threatened the Cougar net throughout the second half, but were stifled by the strong play of Clark keeper Matt Talbot, who became the first net-minder to shutout MIT this season. Danny Perry's blast just minutes into the second stanza went narrowly over before James Zorich's effort in the 72nd minute was denied by Talbot, who made two saves in earning the victory.

Tech keeper Tom Caldwell stopped two shots while taking the loss.

MIT will look to bounce back when it hosts Amherst College on Wednesday, Sept. 20 in a match that will kickoff at 4:30 p.m. Clark takes its undefeated record to Fitchburg State on the same day, with a scheduled start time of 4:00 p.m.
