CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - A pair of goals by Ryan Sheffler, the first in his career, led MIT to a 3-0 victory over Clark University on Saturday. Morgan Mills earned the shutout, tying him for first in career shutouts with nine.
The Engineers (3-0-1, 2-0-0 NEWMAC) wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, ending the scoreless tie in the 12th minute. Walter Song set up Ryan Sheffler for what proved to be the game-winning goal. Tech held onto the slim one goal advantage through halftime.
Six minutes into the second stanza, MIT extended its lead when Robert Pilawa connected on a pass from Alex Morgan. Sheffler closed the door on the Cougars, scoring on a feed from Jose Ramon Torradas with 14 minutes left to play.
In the net, Morgan Mills collected five saves for the Engineers.
The next game for MIT will be on Thursday, Sept. 30 when it travels to Gordon College.
