LEWISTON, Maine - The Bates College men's soccer team scored three times in the second half and turned in a stellar defensive effort in a 3-0 win over previously unbeaten MIT in a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon at Russell Street Field. The Bobcats raised their overall record to 6-5 on the season, while the Engineers, who are ranked fifth in New England, fell to 12-1-1, in an intense battle that featured 36 combined fouls for the game.
After a scoreless first half, Bates increased the offensive pressure. Chris Okano tallied the game's first goal on a cross from the right wing by Jonathan Lobozzo at the 54:29 mark. Bates added unassisted goals by Patrick King in the 73rd minute and Patrick Jackson with nine minutes to play.
In net, Greg Watts turned back six shots for his third shutout of the season. MIT goalie Tom Caldwell recorded four saves.
