Men's Soccer Defeats Coast Guard in Double Overtime

NEW LONDON, CONN. - Christopher Desrochers scored with 4:48 left in double overtime as top-seeded MIT beat fourth-seeded Coast Guard, 4-3, in the semifinals of the ECAC New England Division III Men's Soccer Tournament. The victory marked the third time this season the Engineers have defeated the Bears, and the second time in the past week.
MIT opened the scoring with a goal by Jose Ramon Torradas on a feed from Ryan Sheffler just 3:11 into the match. Coast Guard tied it on a goal by Casey Steuer seven minutes later, leading to a 1-1 deadlock at halftime.
Sean Munnis gave the Bears their only lead of the game 2:35 into the second half. MIT's Walter Song responded by tallying back-to-back unassisted goals in the 57th and 61st minutes to give his squad a 3-2 advantage. Coast Guard tied the game 19 seconds later on a goal by Anthony Marcheski.
In the net, Morgan Mills made four saves for Tech.
MIT will make its first appearance in the ECAC Championship Game, hosting the winner of the Johnson & Wales/UMass-Dartmouth semifinal.
