Squash comes out on Top in Match against Northeastern

BOSTON, Mass. – After winning against Boston University at its season opener the night before, the MIT squash team went on to defeat Northeastern University by a score of 5-4 on Saturday morning. The Engineers are now 2-0 on their newly-started 2013-14 campaign.

Leading the way for MIT, once again, was freshman Tyler Finkelstein (Greenwich, Conn.), who defeated Evan Jacobson at the No. 1 position, winning the first, third and fourth games by a score of 11-8, 11-4, 11-5 and dropping the second, 11-6. Classmate Nikhil Punwaney (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) followed this up with a victory at No. 2 against Max Kachur, 11-3, 11-6, 11-4. Junior David Bian (Austin, Texas) had a close battle with Stan Berenstein the entire time, winning 11-8, 11-9 in the first two games before falling in the third, 11-8, and coming back to take the fourth, 11-5.

Junior Gray Riley (Wellesley, Mass.) won by default at No. 5 and sophomore Marina Crowe (Wayland, Mass.) came from behind to defeat Louie Sitwell at No. 6. She lost the first game, 11-8, before winning the second, 12-10. She dropped the third, 11-7, and won the final two, 11-9, 11-7 to take the match.

Tech will play in its first home match of the season tomorrow against Boston College at 10:00 .a.m.
