CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Wyatt Ubellacker (Georgetown, Ky.) will appear in the 'Faces in the Crowd' section of Sports Illustrated that is set to hit stands on Monday, April 8. Ubellacker, who is only the fourth MIT student-athlete to be featured in the magazine, was recognized for his accomplishments in the pool this year.
At the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships that were held in Shenandoah, Texas from March 20-23, Ubellacker truly made an impression. Within the first two days of competition, he had already claimed three national titles: in the 50-yard freestyle with a 19.81, the 100-yard butterfly in 47.34 and as the butterfly leg in the 200-yard medley with their time of 1:28.57, also breaking a 13-year-old national record in the 100 fly.
Throughout the rest of the meet, Ubellacker finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with a 44.01, and was part of the 200-yard freestyle relay that came second with a time of 1:19.74 and the 400-yard medley relay that was third with a 3:15.89. The senior set seven new MIT school records over the four day meet, three of which were his own individual records.
For his impressive performances at the championship, Ubellacker was named the Swimmer of the Year by the College Swim Coaches Association of America.
