Ubellacker Completes Second Event of World Champ Trials

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - MIT graduate Wyatt Ubellacker '13 competed in his second event, the 100-meter butterfly, at the USA Swimming Phillips 66 National Championships and World Championships Trials at IUIPUI on Thursday morning. With two events now completed, he has just one race left to swim this week.

Going into the meet, Ubellacker was seeded 28th in the 100 fly with a 54.68. In the preliminary heats of the event, he swam a time of 54.76 to take 26th place in the event, just a few hundredths of a second off his best time and narrowly missing making it back to finals.

Yesterday, Ubellacker moved up 11 places in the 50-meter butterfly to make it to the championship final in eighth place. That night, he swam a 24.15, the exact time he went in prelims, to take eighth and earn a spot on the podium next to a handful of Olympians.

Ubellacker will wait to swim his third event of the World Championship Trials, the 50-meter freestyle, until Saturday morning, the fifth and final day of competition.
