MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Sophomore Deke Hu and freshman Rastislav Racz tallied four victories apiece at the Cardinal Invitational this past weekend, which was hosted by Wesleyan University. The Engineers were impressive on day one, taking the top spot in seven of 15 events, but did not factor in to the final results, as the squad didn't compete on the second day.
Also competing in the invitational were Wesleyan, Brandeis University and Keene State College.
Hu was a part of all three of Tech's relay wins. He teamed with Jeremy Chang, Luke Cummings and Racz for first-place finishes in both the 200-yard medley relay (1:40.21) and the 400-yard medley relay (3:39.14). In addition, the Casa Grande, Calif. native was part of the 800-yard freestyle relay team along with Kalvin Kao, Udit Garg and Peter Wellings which touched the wall with a winning time of 7:23.45. He also swam to individual victory in the 100-yard butterfly (54.10).
In addition to his two relay victories, Racz clocked in first-place finishes in both the 50-yard breaststroke (27.04) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.55).
Kao, a junior from Santa Monica, Calif., picked up MIT's final victory in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:01.15.
Tech returns to the pool on Saturday, Dec. 9, when it hosts New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference rival Wheaton College in a meet that will begin at 1:00 p.m.
