Men's Tennis Blanks Eastern Nazarene College

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - At its second match of the 2013 portion of the season, the MIT men's tennis team had a convincing 9-0 victory over Eastern Nazarene College inside the Carr Tennis Bubble at home on Tuesday afternoon. The Engineers improved to 4-0 on the season, while the Lions fell to 0-2.

In doubles, juniors Edwin Zhang (Falls Church, Va.) and Curtis Wu (Yorba Linda, Calif.) defeated Sam Mckay-Corkum and Sam Son with a score of 8-4. Freshman Kevin Wang (Havertown, Pa.) and senior Tymor Hamamasy (New York, N.Y.) won against Tim Luz and Nick Thompson, 8-1. To end doubles, freshmen Jeffrey Bu (Arcadia, Calif.) and Dennis A Garcia (Corpus Christi, Texas) had an 8-0 win over Tyler Perron and Kevin Paterno.

With a 3-0 over the Lions going into singles, the Engineers got stronger as the match continued. Zhang started things off with a 6-3, 6-0 win over McKay at the No. 1 position before junior Larry Pang (Torrance, Calif.) defeated Son with scores of 6-2, 6-1 and Wu finished off Perron with a 6-0, 6-1 score. Senior Troy Astorino (Laguna Hills, Calif.) easily won his first set against Luz, 6-1, but had to fight for the win in the second set, walking away with a 7-5 victory. Freshman Justin Cheung (Sydney, Australia) had a 6-2, 6-2 win over Paterno and fellow freshman Robbie Shaw (San Diego, Calif.) easily defeated Thompson with scores of 6-0, 6-0.

MIT wastes little time before heading back to the bubble for a match on Friday, March 1 at 6:00 p.m.
