MIT Men's Tennis Continues Undefeated Streak With Win Against F&M

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - On a chilly March Saturday in New England, the No. 8 Northeast regionally-ranked MIT men's tennis team faced No. 9 Atlantic South regionally-ranked Franklin & Marshall in the J.B. Carr Tennis Bubble, defeating the Diplomats, 6-3. The Engineers are now 6-0 for the season, while F&M fell to 1-2.

In doubles action, the undefeated juniors Edwin Zhang (Falls Church, Va.) and Curtis Wu (Yorba Linda, Calif.) increased their winning streak to four by defeating Ross Silverberg and Nolan Bacchieri, 9-7. SeniorsLarry Pang (Torrance, Calif.) an Matthew Skalak (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) narrowly lost to Doug Kaplan and Samuel Stone, 8-6. Freshman Kevin Wang (Havertown, Pa.) and sophomore Eugene Oh (Alparetta, Ga.) wrapped up doubles with an 8-0 win over William MacArthur and Peter Bookman.

In the top spot for singles, Zhang won the first set against Silverberg, 6-3, but lost the final two, 6-3, 6-4. In the No. 2 position, Pang lost the first set, 6-2, but the second one, 6-3, and lost the final set, 7-6 (7-2). Wu won his first set against Kaplan, 6-4, lost the second one, 6-1, but won the final set, 6-4.

In the No. 4 spot, Skalak won against Bacchieri, 6-4, 7-5 in a close match. Senior Tymor Hamamasy (New York, N.Y.) defeated Alec Tunner, 6-4, 6-3 and, to end the day, freshman Jeffrey Bu (Arcadia, Calif.) easily won against Stone, 6-3, 6-0.

The Engineers will return to the bubble on Wednesday, March 6 with a 4:00 p.m. match against Baruch College.
