Men's Tennis Defeats Vassar College, 8-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - On Friday night, the No. 8 Northeast regionally-ranked MIT men's tennis team blanked No. 11 Vassar College, 8-0, in the J.B. Carr Tennis Bubble. The undefeated Engineers are now 5-0 for the season, while the Brewers dipped to 3-6.

In the top spot for doubles, juniors Edwin Zhang (Falls Church, Va.) and Curtis Wu (Yorba Linda, Calif.) won against Andrew Guzick and Dan Freeman, 8-3. The MIT pair are now 3-0 for matches they have played in the No.1 position so far this season. Seniors Matthew Skalak (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) and Larry Pang (Torrance, Calif.) defeated Nick Jasso and Daniel Cooper, 8-4, and freshman Kevin Wang (Havertown, Pa.) and sophomore Eugene Oh (Alparetta, Ga.) won against Christian Phelps and Evan Udine with a score of 8-3.

Zhang started off singles with an exciting three-game thriller in the No. 1 position, losing the first set to Guzick, 6-4, but winning the final two, 7-6(5), 6-2. Wang defeated Freeman, 6-4, 7-5 in two very close sets, and Oh walked away with a win against Jasso with scores of 6-3, 6-4.

In the No. 4 spot, Wu easily defeated Phelps, 6-4, 6-1 and, to end the match, senior Tymor Hamamasy (New York, N.Y.) won against Udine, 6-3, 6-4.

MIT will return to the tennis bubble tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. when it hosts Franklin and Marshall College.
