CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Matthew Skalak (Croton-on-Hudson) and junior Edwin Zhang (Falls Church, Va.) were named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis Doubles Team of the Week on Monday afternoon. The duo paired up for the third time this season to defeat Wheaton College's Jonah Feit and Will White at No. 1 with a score of 8-3.
MIT opened NEWMAC play in their first away match of the spring season against Wheaton on Saturday, defeating the Lyons, 8-1. In singles, Zhang fell to Feit at No. 1, winning the first set, 6-3, but dropping the final two, 6-2, 10-8. Skalak defeated Dan Sharon with a score of 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4.
Junior Curtis Wu (Yorba Linda, Calif.) and freshman Kevin Wang (Havertown, Pa.) paired up for the first time at No. 2 doubles to defeat Sharon and Ned Terrace, 8-5. At No. 2 singles, senior Larry Pang (Torrance, Calif.) defeated David Gassen, 6-1, 6-4.
The undefeated Engineers, who have a record of 11-0 for the season and 1-0 for conference play, will return to action on Wednesday, April 3 when they host NEWMAC foe Babson College at 3:30 p.m.
