CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The No. 5 Northeast regionally-ranked MIT men's tennis team was one of the 44 teams that was selected to take part in the 2013 NCAA Division III Championships, as announced by the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Committee on Monday evening. This will be the Engineers' eighth consecutive nationals appearance and their 20th overall.
MIT, who received a first round bye, will travel to Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. on Friday, May 10 to take on the winner of the UMass-Boston vs. Skidmore College match that will be played this coming Thursday.
All 44 teams will play a single-elimination tournament with the first, second and third rounds being played at regional sites from Friday through Sunday, May 10-12. The team championship finals will be held from Monday through Wednesday, May 20-22 at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
The Cardinal and Gray, who won their 15th straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championship title against Babson College just over a week ago, are currently 18-2 for the season, which is the most wins they have had since 2001. They are 11-19 in NCAA play. Last year, MIT defeated Stevens Institute of Technology in the second round with a score of 5-1 before falling to Williams in the third round with a final score of 5-0.
The names of the individuals who will be invited to take part in the championships will be released on Wednesday, May 8.
