CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - For the second week in a row, the MIT men's tennis team blanked its opponent, defeating UMass Boston by a score of 9-0. Tech is now 3-1 on the season, after winning against Bentley University and RPI and falling to Amherst earlier in the season. UMass Boston dipped to 0-2.
As they did last week, seniors Edwin Zhang (Falls Church, Va.) and Curtis Wu (Yorba Linda, Calif.) were victorious at No. 1, winning against Sean Cullen and Charles Lai by a score of 8-6. At No. 2, junior Eugene Oh (Alpharetta, Ga.) and sophomore Kevin Wang (Havertown, Pa.) defeated Lyle Analetto and Jack Wang, 8-0 and, at No. 3, freshman Kenny Gea (Irvine, Calif.) and sophomore Dennis Garcia (Corpus Christi, Texas) won against Jon Feng and Brian Sou by the same score.
In singles action, Zhang defeated Cullen in the top spot, 6-1, 6-1, while Garcia won against Lai at No. 2, 7-6, 6-0. In the remaining four spots, each of the Engineers blanked their opponents, winning both sets by a score of 6-0. At No. 3, junior Jeffrey Sperling (Los Angeles, Calif.) was victorious against Analetto and, at No. 4, sophomore Jeffrey Bu (Arcadia, Calif.) defeated Jack Wang. In the fifth spot, sophomore Alex Jaffe (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) won over Sou and, at No. 6, sophomore Justin Cheung (Sydney, Australia) defeated Feng.
Tech has one more home match before going on the road for two consecutive matches. MIT will host Colby-Sawyer College on Thursday, March 6 at 4:00 p.m. before traveling to Bates College on Friday, March 14 and Springfield College on Saturday, March 29.
