BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Edwin Zhang (Falls Church, Va.) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Tennis Singles Player of the Week on Monday. This is the second week in a row that he has received this honor.
No. 27 Tech dropped its first match of the spring season on Friday, falling to No. 25 Bates College, 7-2, with both of the Engineers' victories coming in singles action. At No. 1, Zhang won his first set against Timmy Berg, 6-3, fell in the second, 3-6, and broke the tie by winning the final set, 7-6. He is undefeated in the last four matches and has an overall record of 4-2, after dropped a pair of matches back in October.
MIT, which is 4-2 on the season, will open NEWMAC action on Saturday, March 29, hitting the road for a 3:00 p.m. faceoff against Springfield College. The Engineers will then host six straight matches, half of which will be against conference rivals.
