Engineers Defeat Bowdoin, 5-2

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - A hard-fought doubles victory by Evan Tindell and Thomas Dohlman helped power the MIT men's tennis team to a 5-2 win over Bowdoin College on Saturday. The No. 1 duo came back from two break points to win the match, 9-7, and clinch the doubles point for the Engineers (3-0).

In the No. 2 doubles position, Eric Beren and Peden Nichols dropped a 9-8 decision after battling to a 10-8 loss in the tiebreaker. Kevin Durand and Mark Egan captured an 8-4 win in the final doubles spot.

For the second match in a row, Melvin Makhni quickly wrapped up play in the No. 6 slot with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Tindell recorded Tech's next straight-set victory with a 6-4, 6-3 decision in the No. 1 position. A 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win by Egan in the No. 4 spot secured the match for the Engineers. After opening his No. 5 match with a 6-4 victory, Nichols did not pick up a game in the second set. However, he bounced back with a 7-5 decision in the final set. In the No. 2 position, Beren fell, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, while Dohlman lost, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, in the next slot.

In the lone exhibition match of the day, Durand recorded a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
