Amherst Defeats MIT, 5-0, in Men's Tennis

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Amherst College advanced to the regional final of the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament with a 5-0 win over MIT at Middlebury College on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers closed their campaign with a ledger of 13-6, marking their 11th consecutive 10-win season.
Amherst recorded its first win of the day when the No. 2 doubles tandem of Geoff Schwartz and Jeffrey Wan defeated Mark Egan and Peden Nichols, 8-4. Thomas Dohlman and Eric Beren fell, 8-6, in the top spot while Said Francis and Melvin Makhni dropped a hard-fought loss by a margin of 9-8 (11-9). Wan extended the Jeffs' lead to 4-0 following his 6-2, 6-1 win over Nichols in the No. 4 singles slot. Amherst sealed the match in the No. 6 position when Francis fell, 6-4, 6-0.
