CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Kevin Pang, Ken Van Tilburg, Brian Wee, and David Iba represented MIT at the ITA New England Championship held this past weekend at Williams College. Pang and Van Tilburg made their second straight appearance at the tournament while Wee and Iba were first-time competitors.
In the singles bracket, Pang rallied for a 4-6, 7-5 (10-6) win over Scott Schulman (Brandeis University), but then fell to Jeremy Weinberger (Williams College) for the second year in a row, this time by scores of 6-2, 6-1. Van Tilburg lost to Josh Cranin (Bowdoin College), 6-3, 6-4, while Wee was defeated by Andrew Jung (Amherst College), 6-2, 6-4.
Van Tilburg and Wee dropped an 8-4 decision to Ben Stein and Amrit Rupasinghe (Bates College), the top seed and eventual champion. Pang and Iba lost to Karol Furmaga and Rick Devlin (Williams College), 8-3, in their only match of the weekend.
