CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - For the second consecutive week, the MIT men's tennis team copped a pair of New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) honors. Melvin Makhni was tabbed the Singles Player of the Week while Said Francis and Jonathan Farm were named the Doubles Team of the Week.
In the first post-season outing of his career, Makhni notched a pair of straight-set wins. Against Coast Guard in the NEWMAC semifinals, he did not drop a game against his No. 6 opponent. In the championship match, Makhni defeated his Wheaton foe, 6-2, 6-4, en route to MIT's eighth title.
In their No. 3 doubles debut, Francis and Farm went undefeated during the NEWMAC Championship Tournament. The duo blanked Coast Guard's tandem, 8-0, in semifinal play, and then posted an 8-5 decision over Wheaton to clinch the doubles point of the title match.
