CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT senior All-America Stephen Morton was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s Field Athlete of the Week on Monday following an impressive performance in MIT’s victory at the Engineer’s Cup over the weekend. Morton achieved a pair of NCAA provisional qualifying standards as Tech bested host RPI and WPI at the annual competition between the three schools.
Morton took home first place in the long jump and triple jump, reaching the provisional mark in each event, in addition to a win in the 200m. Morton’s jump of 47-1.50 feet in the triple jump was four feet better than his nearest competitor. That effort currently stands as the ninth best in Division III on the season. The senior also cleared 23-1.75 in the long jump, an event in which he already holds the fifth best mark in the nation.
In addition to his individual event victories, Morton anchored the first-place 4x100-meter relay.
