Engineers Compete at Tufts Last Chance Meet

SOMERVILLE, Mass. - As an added opportunity to improve on their NCAA qualifying marks, a small group of the No. 10 MIT men's indoor track and field team competed in the Tufts Last Chance Meet on Thursday afternoon.

Tech's one individual runner was junior Benji Xie (El Dorado Hills, Calif.), who finished in third place in the 5000m with a 14:47.96. He crossed the line just four seconds behind the first place finisher from Dickinson.

MIT's only other entry was the Distance Medley Relay, which finished in 10th place with a time of 10:14.43. The relay, which was made up of junior Samuel Parker (Menlo Park, Calif.), senior Mac Gager (Rye, N.Y.), and juniors Harrison Hunter (Northampton, Mass.) andChadd Kiggins (Xenia, Ohio) completed the event just nine one-hundredths of a second behind Widener's A relay.

The Engineers have a busy weekend ahead of them. One group will head to the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center for the ECAC Championship on Friday and Saturday, March 7-8, while another group will participate in the IC4A Championship at Boston University on Saturday and Sunday.
