New Orleans, La. (March 7) -- As announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), MIT track and field assistant coach Derek Rousseau has been named as the New England Region Men's Indoor Assistant Coach of the Year.
Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches. Only those individuals from USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.
Rousseau is coaching four student-athletes in this weekend's NCAA Division III National Championship in Birmingham, Alabama as the Engineers have two jumpers from both the men's and the women's teams. For the women, seniors Nneoma Okonkwo (Lagos, Nigeria) and Haley Strouf (Rice Lake, Wis.) are competing in the long jump as they come into the championship ranked seventh and 13th, respectively. For the men, freshman Yorai Shaoul (Raanana, Israel) and senior William Ruschel (Bethel Park, Pa.) are both competing in the triple jump at this year's event. Shaoul checks in as the No. 3 seed, while Ruschel is the ninth seed.
