CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Matt Hohenberger earned his second North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Rookie of the Week honor while Mike Demyttenaere received his first New England Division Player of the Week selection this season. Hohenberger has been the league's Rookie of the Week twice and the New England Division pick four times. The accolades also mark the third occasion MIT has been tabbed for both awards.
Hohenberger averaged 3.88 kills, a .342 hitting percentage, .81 blocks, and .56 aces in a 4-1 week for the Engineers. He kicked things off with 22 kills, five blocks, and three aces in a five-set win over Newbury College. In one set versus Bard College, Hohenberger posted two kills and two blocks before notching 12 kills and five blocks against then-nationally ranked No. 10 Milwaukee School of Engineering. He registered 10 kills, five digs, and two aces in a sweep of the College of Mount Saint Vincent which was followed by 16 kills, three aces, and two blocks versus then-No. 5 Carthage College.
Demyttenaere averaged 2.53 kills, a .453 hitting percentage, and 1.32 blocks last week. Against previously undefeated conference foe Newbury, he posted 11 kills and six blocks. Demyttenaere notched 10 kills and three blocks in a sweep of Bard before tallying eight blocks and seven kills in a loss to MSOE. He compiled eight kills, three aces, and three blocks versus College of Mount Saint Vincent and then amassed 12 kills and five blocks against Carthage.
