CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Following his first
week of intercollegiate competition, freshman Matt Hohenberger was
voted the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New
England Division Rookie of the Week. His performance powered the
nationally-ranked No. 13 Engineers to a 4-1 start and a
second-place finish at the SUNY New Paltz Invitational.
Hohenberger averaged 5.00 points, 4.00 kills, and 0.79 aces per set
while hitting .417. He opened the week with nine kills and six aces
in a sweep of division foe Lesley University which was followed by
11 kills and three aces versus No. 10 Baruch College. In a 3-0
sweep of the host Hawks, Hohenberger recorded his best match,
planting 17 kills with three aces for a stellar .682 hitting
percentage. The St. Louis, Mo. native was a perfect 8-for-8 on
attack in one set of a sweep over Elms College before landing 11
kills in a 3-0 win against Emmanuel College.
