CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second time
this season, the MIT men’s volleyball team swept the North
East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division
weekly awards. Both first-time honorees, Tim Lee was chosen as the
division’s Player of the Week while Alex Becherer earned
Rookie of the Week accolades.
Lee compiled 71 assists, 13 digs, five kills, three blocks, and one
ace in seven sets. He recorded 10 assists, four digs, and one ace
in a brief outing against Southern Vermont College. In another
one-set performance versus Elms College, Lee posted nine assists,
one kill, and one dig. He closed the week with 52 assists, eight
digs, three kills, and three blocks in a five-set battle with
Emmanuel College.
Becherer tallied 30 kills, a .379 hitting percentage, 23 digs, 10
blocks, six aces, and 47 errorless service receptions in 11 sets.
He notched eight digs, three kills, and two aces versus Southern
Vermont before racking up 10 kills, a .563 hitting percentage, four
digs, three aces, and two blocks against Elms. Becherer amassed 17
kills, a .364 hitting performance, 11 digs, eight blocks, and an
ace in MIT’s win over Emmanuel.
