No. 13 Engineers Blank Regis and Daniel Webster
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT men’s
volleyball team picked up a pair of wins against North East
Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division foes
Regis College and Daniel Webster College on Saturday. The
nationally-ranked No. 13 Engineers swept Regis, 30-10, 30-14,
30-10, before defeating Daniel Webster, 30-11, 30-16, 30-13.
Earlier, Daniel Webster topped Regis, 30-17, 30-16, 30-19.
MIT def. Regis College,
3-0 (30-10, 30-14, 30-10)
Troy Tamas compiled 14 kills, eight aces, five digs, three
blocks, and two assists for MIT (10-4, 5-2 NECVA). Eric Reuland
racked up 11 kills, six digs, three aces, and three assists while
Benson George tallied eight kills, three blocks, and two aces.
Robin Demyttenaere posted eight kills, two aces, and a block as
Jeremy Velazquez notched six digs, four kills, and an ace. Caine
Jette amassed 36 assists, six kills, three digs, three aces, and a
block while Daniel Sngiem rounded out the squad with five digs.
Si Pan Leong powered Regis (1-12, 0-6 NECVA) with two blocks and an
ace as Drew Haddon chipped in an ace and a block. Thomas Paoletta
dished out four assists while James Guaragna collected four digs.
Andrew Carroll bolstered the defense with a pair of blocks.

def. Regis College, 3-0 (30-17, 30-16, 30-19)
Chris Shannon paced Daniel Webster (2-3, 2-2 NECVA) with 11
kills and three aces as Eric Smith registered 10 kills, 20 assists,
two blocks, and an ace. Elson Abotsi notched seven kills while Dave
Miller posted six kills, two aces, and a block. Sean Rogers rounded
out the front row with five kills and three blocks as Kyle Clement
tacked on 17 assists and an ace.
Andrew Carroll and Alan Wong each earned an ace while Carroll added
three kills. Si Pan Leong and Drew Haddon both picked up a pair of
blocks as James Guaragna collected a match-high nine digs. Thomas
Paoletta distributed seven assists for Regis.
MIT def. Daniel Webster
College, 3-0 (30-11, 30-16, 30-13)
Mike Demyttenaere had a solid outing for MIT as he totaled
eight aces, five blocks, five kills, and three digs. Garrett
Winther tallied 12 kills, four digs, three blocks, and three aces
as David Thomas recorded 12 kills and three blocks. Alex Becherer
contributed five aces, three digs, and three kills while Matt
Hohenberger racked up 12 kills and three aces. Patrick Vatterott
bolstered the front row with seven kills and two blocks as Eric
Reuland paced the defense with eight digs. Tim Lee compiled 22
assists, three digs, and two blocks while Caine Jette finished with
12 assists.
Eric Smith led Daniel Webster with five kills in addition to five
assists. Chris Shannon contributed four kills and an ace while Kyle
Clements dished out six assists. Justin Masse anchored the defense
with seven digs.
All three squads continue NECVA New England Division action next
week. On Monday, Feb. 15, MIT will host Lesley University while
Daniel Webster will travel to Elms College. Regis resumes play on
Wednesday, Feb. 17 in a home match against Wentworth Institute of
Technology.
